CONNECTIONS took no chances with their entrants for the $200,000 Oaks Stakes “classic” on Arima Race Club Day 23 at Santa Rosa Park, on Saturday.

Principal runners remained in their stalls, and some of the lesser lights did either sharp sprints or were sent out pacing.

Seen out yesterday morning was Ibis Stakes winner Afirmcat who had a steady run over 800 metres in 52.3 seconds.

Coconut Girl had a 400 metres sprint completed in a handy 27.3 seconds while Gardenangel was clocked in 24.1 seconds over the same trip.

From the John O’Brien stables, Chanterelle paced 800 metres in 59.0 seconds Both South Sea and Sea Treasure from the Harriram “Pepsi” Gobin barn was out pacing.

Sea Treasure put in a 1000 metres gallop timed in one minute 14.4 seconds while South Sea who is a reserve, went over 800 metres in 58.4 seconds.

Razmin who also holds the engagement had a good gallop over 800 metres in 51.1 seconds.

Turfites have been given an eight-race programme on which to wager on Saturday.

There will be three Hi 5 races on the day with the first offering the Southern Medical Clinic Ltd-sponsored guaranteed $50,000 pool along with a $6,903.60 single winner bonus.
