Quow strikes gold in Hampton 200m Monday, July 27 2009
OLYMPIC 400m finalist Renny Quow displayed his versatility yesterday to claim the Men’s 200m gold medal at the Hampton International Games at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
Quow, better known for his brilliance over 400m beat a star-studded field to cross the finish line in a quick 20.61 seconds just ahead of Rondell Sorillo who timed 20.70. Jovon Toppin collected the bronze, clocking 20.85 seconds.
In the female equivalent, Reyare Thomas snatched the gold medal from Nyoka Giles in a scintillating finish, crossing the line in 23.47 seconds. Giles had to settle for the silver with a time of 24.44 while Alescia Fortune earned bronze in 24.84.
Kishorn Demster of Concorde sprinted to victory in the Boys Under-17 200m dash in 21.90, beating Abilene’s Darvin Sandy (22.37) into second. Phoenix runner Kristian Farrell was third in 22.65.
Meanwhile, the promising Jean-Marc Constantine brought home the gold for Concorde in the Boys Under-15 4x100m relay with an amazing performance on the anchor leg. Constantine collected the baton in third position but as soon as he got into stride was clearly the favourite. He scorched the tracks to give Concorde an unlikely first place in 45.81.
Carifta gold medallist Quincy Wilson of Health Olympians warmed up for the Pan Am Games next weekend, wrapping up the gold medal in the Men’s Discus with a brilliant effort that easily beat the field. Wilson was the only athlete to break the 50m barrier, hurling the discus 52.61m. Ansil Nicholson of Memphis easily took the gold in the men’s 400m hurdles ahead of teammate Densil Delpeche. Natakki Thomas of Concorde followed in third while Laune Look Tow of Cougars fell on the penultimate hurdle but showed great character to finish the race.
