Waterloo hit 23 goals in two matches in US

Wednesday, August 5 2009

WATERLOO Institute of Soccer Players scored 23 goals in two matches on their recent tour to Cocoa Expo 2009 Nations Cup international Soccer Tournament.

With two guest players, Alexis Peri a grand son of former Chaguanas resident Wilkie Chin Sam and Grace Malone, the WISP Under-10s shut out Port St John United Under-11s by a 5-0 margin with Renee Mike and Jordell Edmond scoring doubles and Peri one goal.

And on Sunday last, WISP swamped East Orange Knights 18-2 with Mike, Nick Peri and Edmond scoring three goals each, Alexis Peri two and Malone one.

But this game was a personal triumph for Jamal Myers who powered home six goals for the WISP team.

Jordan Rivers and Alex Boyd got one goal each for the Knights.

WISP also won two other games by default and had their tournament fees refunded while receiving gold medals.

The WISP contingent was also taken to dinner at the Atlantic Ocean Restaurant at the Cocoa Beach pier, and later taken to the islands of Adventure Park in Orlando. Two WISP players, Romario Mike and Micah Renie played as guests of the Waldrick Warriors Under-17 (New Jersey) team in four games, but the team failed to reach the finals.

Mike, however, was adjudged Most Valuable Player of the Warriors team.

Apart from playing in the tournament, WISP players benefited from a soccer clinic conducted by German goalkeeper coach Udo Schenatzky and English coach Keith Melouchlin who coaches the Western Connecticut State University footballers.
