Stableboys duo win Quick Hit

Thursday, October 22 2009

THE RED Bull Quick Hit tournament ended with a thrilling and tense final match with Kevon Ramdhanie and partner Christopher Jagmohan winning out over Stableboys teammates Adrian Ali and Amzad Mohammed to take the prize.

After the regulation two overs ended with both teams tied on 44, Ramdhanie and Jagmohan won with a nailbiting sudden-death over reaching 30 without loss on the last delivery to surpass the total of 29 set by their opponents.

“We feel ecstatic, words can’t describe the feeling but we just happy.” said Ramdhanie. “We didn’t expect that with the side needing one run in the last three balls to win that Christopher would bowl an excellent three balls and bring it down to the super over.”

On his bowling performance, Jagmohan said: “I knew if I pitched the ball where I wanted to, he couldn’t touch it.”

The duo took home a Red Bull Quick Hit Trophy, a cash prize, a trip to the finals of ICC World 20/20 Championships in Barbados next May as well as the ultimate bragging rights of being crowned the first ever Red Bull Quick Hit champions. Red Bull Quick Hit featured two teams, two players and two overs with speed and accuracy being the focus of the game. After four qualifiers held throughout Trinidad, 16 teams were chosen from 90 pairs that entered.

The finals were held last Sunday at the Centre Point Mall carpark in Chaguanas in front of a modest but appreciative crowd.

Indeed, the 16 final teams drummed up a great deal of excitement on the day, rivalling that of the national team in India.

Tournament and crowd favourites Shazan Babwah and Andre Brown along with South pair Jonruss Jaggessar and Akeef Mohammed impressed with good cricket in their opening rounds only to eventually fall short in the semi-finals.

Babwah was bowled twice off consecutive balls from finalist Adrian Ali chasing a total of 57 runs, while in the other semi-final, Ramdhanie took it to the wire, hitting a last ball six off Akeef Mohammed which landed inches over the boundary rope to surpass their modest total of 38.
