Sellier cruises into TATT second roundSaturday, November 21 2009
THIRD SEED Trevine Sellier got her campaign underway in the Women’s Singles of the TATT Open yesterday with a breezy straight sets win against the unseeded Rachael Nwokolo at the Eddie Taylor Public Courts, St Clair.
Sellier hardly broke a sweat against Nwokolo, prevailing 6-0 in the opening set and denied her opponent a single set in the second for a flawless win.
Sellier will meet Elyse Maggiori in the second round today. Stampfli, the IBM ITF and TATT Under-14 champ did not show for her match against Maggiori yesterday, losing the match by the walkover route.
Maggiori will need to be at her best today to get past Sellier, who looks to be in good touch.
Keneel Teesdale lost just three games in her match against Sarah Salandy, taking the first set 6-1 and the second 6-2.
Meanwhile, Gabriela Briceno Bianculli did not need to lift her racquet against Denise Corbie as she failed to show for her match.
In Men’s action, St Lucian Mc Collin Fontenelle swept aside Adam Suite in two to roll into the second round of competition today. The St Lucian grabbed the opener 6-1 and maintained his tempo and discipline to take the second 6-2. He will play the winner of yesterday evening’s match between third seed Luke De Caires and Tobago’s Adrian De Silva.
Top seed Richard Chung was in action against Javier Lewis in his first match yesterday evening while number two seed Vaughn Wilson played David Denoon. Tobagonian Yohansey Williams made his highly anticipated return to competitive tennis as well with a match against TATT president Michael Cooper.
Today, the Men’s and Women’s Singles semi-finals will be played with the finals serving off on the final day tomorrow.
