PENALTY KICKS proved to be St Mary’s undoing yet again, in the Coca-Cola Intercol competition as they fell 7-6 to El Dorado in yesterday’s National semi-final clash at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

Both teams were locked at 1-1 after regulation time, with national Under-20 defender Daniel Cyrus putting El Dorado ahead in the 28th, placing a low left-footed shot past St Mary’s goalkeeper Raheem Belgrave.

But St Mary’s captain Kyle Beggs planted his header beyond the reach of El Dorado’s keeper Christian Edwards, 13 minutes later, to even the scores.

There was no winner in the second half, hence the game had to be decided in kicks-from-the-penalty-spot.

After five kicks apiece, in the shoot-out, the scores were 4-4 and, in sudden-death, the scores were 6-6 when St Mary’s Akhil Noel struck the uprights.

Michael Baptiste converted his penalty to put El Dorado in the final, scheduled for December 1.

The other semi-final will take place tomorrow with Naparima hosting St Augustine at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.
