CONNECTIONS of Treasure Hunt could start preparing themselves for the lead-in in the St James Stakes for colts and geldings on December 5 at Santa Rosa Park, Arima.

This son of Tracking /Topaz Jewel has come on a ton as displayed at gallops yesterday morning.

And under the astute handling by young trainer Douglas Bennett the Jamaican-bred chestnut colt was blossoming in coat and had a handy gallop over 1000 metres to be clocked in one minute 08.3 seconds, champing at the bit.

Unless there is a major surprise among the 16 nominated runners for the $125,000 purse 1200 metres .

Also seen out was Chiefcrazyhorse, another from the Isle of Springs, who was seen pacing over 600 metres in 43.4 seconds.

Ferry Landing who is also in the St James looked lively in a 400 metres spin from the boxes timed in 23.4 seconds.

St Ann’s Stakes (fillies) runner Handsome Warrior was among a handful of the “girls” seen out yesterday, but they all did pace work.

Peace On Earth went over 1000 metres in one minute 10.3 seconds, Sweetie Jan paced over 800 metres in 58.4 seconds while Becausewecan went over 600 metres in 44.0 seconds.

Handsome Warrior was clocked in 43.4 seconds for her 600 metres exercise.

Once again the grey Jamaican-bred champion Bruceontheloose was out frolicking over 800 metres in 59.4 seconds while stablemate Chief Commander did his work over 600 metres in 44.0 seconds.

Both these runners from the John O’Brien barn are being prepared for the prestigious $500,000 Gold Cup on Boxing Day, December 26.
