SAVVY made it look ridiculously easy in winning the Conditional Handicap “C” feature on Arima Race Club Day 44 at Santa Park, Arima, yesterday.

Patiently ridden by apprentice Nicholas Patrick, the Douglas Bennett-trained filly took up the running 600 metres out and cruised to a 3 1/4 length victory with Be Nice running on from mid division to be second.

On a day when favourites did oblige, dividends were on the small side, but the popular Hi 5 races were both won by more than one turfite leaving a carry-over to the Boxing Day, December 26 races of $31,930.

But despite it all, a lucky turfite still left Santa Rosa Park, with a fat cheque for $40,887.40 for singularly spotting the superfecta in the second race, the combination of Call Of The Wild, Sequoyah, It Have A Chance and Star Princess.

And the trifecta on the first three in this same race returned a dividend of $1,432.40.

With winners being very obvious on the day’s seven-race programme, no jockey or trainer managed to ride or saddle more than one winner.

Now with this pre-Christmas card over, all turfites are now licking their chops for the clash between Bruceontheloose and Blackstone Street in the $500,000 Gold Cup on Boxing Day.
