THE STAGE is set for another giant step towards a world title for Trinidad and Tobago heavyweight champion boxer Kertson Manswell.

And yesterday promoter and international match-maker Boxu Potts said soon after the weight-in and when Manswell wins the encounter, he will reveal a lucrative package that will benefit both Manswell and Trinidad and Tobago in the very near future.

Potts has already announced that international promoters are excited and eager to hand the Tobago-born Manswell a package that will see him fighting monthly, starting tonight.

Manswell however dismissed his rival after receiving an advantage of 41 pounds. He weighed in at 261 lbs while Mrazek tipped the scales at 220 lbs.

The Commonwealth Games silver medallist who has an impressive record of 19 wins and no losses, described Mrazek as “easy pickings”.

His victories comprise 15 knock-outs which include a beating to countryman Jimmy “Farmer” Joseph in Tobago last year. Manswell’s last win came at the expense of American Dennis Mc Kinney two months ago in Mexico.

Potts said the monthly fights will take place until Manswell gets his long-awaited WBC World Title shot.

He told Newsday arrangements are being made to take Manswell to his rightful place at the top of the world among the heavyweights.

Among the plans will be the recruitment of a top trainer to prepare him properly for future fights.

“We are looking at George ‘Georgie’ Benton, the man who trained four-time World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Evander Holyfield and a few others who we cannot reveal at this point,” Potts said.

Manswell however wants to maintain the services of his trainers Winston Cox and Gordon Hoyte, in spite of the recruitment of more established international trainers.

The outspoken Potts, who recently handed over the reins of boxing promotions at his Unified Boxing Promotions to his son Giovanni, explained that he wants to ensure that Manswell gets the best preparation.
