Champs PowerGen take control vs Merry Boys

DEFENDING champions PowerGen are poised to claim first innings honours over Ceramic Merry Boys in their top of the table clash in the Eastern Credit Union Premiership Division at PowerGen Ground in Syne Village, Penal.

Merry Boys closed the first day’s play yesterday on 132 for eight with allrounder Kenton Thompson unbeaten on 12 with hard hitting Richard Kelly on one chasing PowerGen’s first innings total of 224.

The league leaders batting first were guided by captain Samuel Badree with a battling knock of 50. He received support from experienced Gibran Mohammed who scored 37 runs to lead PowerGen fight back against a formidable Merry Boys bowling attack.

Alton Beckford took four for 65 by national players Richard Kelly (2/46) and Lend Simmons (2/36).

Left-arm spinners, Dave Mohammed and Kavesh Kantasingh put PowerGen in control with a mesmerising spell. Mohammed took four for 40 and Kantasingh two for 23 as Merry Boys struggled against the spinners.

Former West Indies Under-19 allrounder, Steven Jacobs was unbeaten on 117 as Rahamuts Evergreen secured first innings points over W Connection Wanderers.

Denesh Ramdhanie took four for 56 as Wanderers were dismissed for 142. Jacobs then destroyed the Wanderers bowling attack along with Kevin Bissondial (44 not out) as Evergreen closed on 197 for two.

Allrounder, Imran Khan ensured Alescon Comets collected first innings honours over SIS Central Sports Invaders. Khan took six for 54 as Central Sports Invaders were dismissed for 225 with Gary Mathurin scoring 100.

Khan then scored 46 with Javon Searles slamming 65 as Comets finished yesterday’s play on 174 for three.

Queen’s Park have claimed first innings honours over the University of Trinidad and Tobago while Clico Preysal have made a strong reply to First Citizens Clarke Road’s total of 263.
