Chag peninsula lights up for festivalMonday, March 22 2010
THE CHAGUARAMAS Development Authority (CDA) will host for the first time in May this year, a multi-faceted event — Festival Chaguaramas — spanning cultural, historical, entertainment, recreational and tourism and environmental planks.
The festival, being held on May 1 - 2, seeks to reach a wide target market, including persons and businesses in the community in which the authority operates.
The festival will provide an environment for the widest participation possible. The objective would be to make the festival as accessible as possible to all groups.
Judith Mark, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) CDA, said: “Chaguaramas continues to be a place of immense potential, and this festival will allow locals and visitors an opportunity to see all that Chaguaramas has to offer in the areas of leisure, sport, entertainment and eco-adventures.
Mark adds: “The festival seeks to position Chaguaramas as a premier tourism destination as well as to communicate the role of the CDA in transforming the Chaguaramas peninsula, consistent with the authority’s tag line “CDA...making Chaguaramas the place to be.”
On the opening day, May 1, the festival will highlight outdoor activities such as sporting tournaments, aquatic competitions and nature tours. The day will climax with a concert “Potpourri Musicale” from 7 pm at Williams Bay, featuring some of the country’s top artistes in the genre.
The second day will serve to bring together all the facets of the outdoors: history, culture and food of the peninsula at the “Festival Village” located at Williams Bay.
Here, visitors will be treated to a family-oriented atmosphere, friendly sea-based competitions, great music and entertainment, theatre, activities for the kids and an array of mouth-watering fish dishes in our ‘Fish Fuh So” booth.
This festival will highlight the many attractions and activities that can be enjoyed on the peninsula.
Chaguaramas, an area steeped in history is a secret treasure that lies in the North West peninsula of Trinidad and is a few minutes from Port-of-Spain.
Known for its lush greenery, scenic bays, sheltered harbours, recreational and sporting facilities and nature trails, it is a haven for the wellness enthusiast, adventurer and eco-tourist.
