WASA whip Parkites 2-0, stay atop football standingsMonday, September 6 2010
WASA remained atop the standings in the bmobile National Super League following a comfortable 2-0 victory over Queen’s Park at the WASA Ground, St Joseph on Saturday.
Stevon Stoute and Kevon Cornwall found the back of the net, in the 20th and 80th minutes respectively, to give WASA full points in their Match Day Nine contest.
TTEC remained in second spot, as Sylvester Teesdale’s 79th minute item was enough to guarantee them a 1-0 win over defending champs Joe Public at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya.
Due to Joe Public’s first loss of the season, 1976 FC Phoenix moved to third place following a 3-2 victory over Defence Force at Canaan, Bon Accord.
Shelton Williams put Phoenix ahead on the stroke of half-time, while Darren Mitchell widened the gap in the 48th. Evergreen Defence Force forward Sherman Phillip pulled one back in the 61st before Akim Baynes restored Phoenix’s two-goal lead in the 65th.
Steve Benny got Defence Force’s second in the 89th but it was a little too late for the visitors.
In a clash of the table-proppers, Harvard registered their first win of the season, a come-from-behind 3-1 result over Valtrin at the Dibe Recreation Ground in St James.
Brent Antoine gave Valtrin a 31st minute lead but McKell Julian evened the scores in the 53rd.
And Harvard completed their triumph with a pair of goals, in quick time, from Duran Felician (62nd and 63rd).
The scheduled meeting between St Francois Nationals and Stokely Vale, at the Youth Camp in Chaguaramas, was cancelled.
Action continues next Saturday, with Match Day Ten fixtures.
