YOUTH Olympic gold medallist Christian Homer along with Beijing Games silver medallist Emmanuel Callender were the heroes of the hour on the final day of SNAG Golf for All in Trincity.

Put on by the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee as the pilot project of its Legacy Shape the Community Programme, SNAG Golf for All was conducted over the four Saturdays in August at the Millennium Golf Course.

More than 130 children between the ages of five and 13 participated in this Starting New At Golf (SNAG) programme which features brightly coloured equipment including special kid-friendly clubs designed to teach proper gripping techniques.

Guided by a team of expert coaches, the children were taught basic driving and putting techniques with an emphasis on having fun.

According to SNAG Golf for All programme director, Troy Romany, so successful has been this pilot project that the TTOC in conjunction with the Trincity Millennium Golf Club has decided to continue the programme every Saturday.

And from October, the TTOC officially launches the Trincity leg of its Shape the Community programme with golf being taught to pupils from the five nearest primary schools in the area.

Highlight of the final day of SNAG Golf for All was the presentation of certificates by Olympic champs Homer and Callender to the 132 children many of whom took the opportunity to secure autographs and take pictures with their heroes.
