A RISING STAR... is Colin Ramasra seen in action recently....
GUYANA’S national squash team coach Alwyn Callender, is presently working with Trinidad and Tobago’s star Colin Ramasra, to further develop his career on the international stage.
Callender aka “Slash” stated that he saw great potential in Ramasra, and with proper guidance, he would go on to achieve great feats in squash internationally.
“He’s (Ramasra) the best in Trindad and Tobago (TT), and has already conquered the Caribbean.
“With his talent and determination, he can represent TT and even break international records,” said the Guyanese coach.
With over 17 years experience coaching squash , Callender recently began working with Ramasra personally, on developing his mental aspect of the game.
Callender firmly stated, “Colin is past Caribbean standards, his physical aspect of the game is great, but must now enhance his ability to gain a mental advantage over his opponents on the courts.”
The duo are currently in the development stages of what the coach calls, advancing a player’s “squash IQ”.
This entails fighting a mental and not physical battle on the court, anticipating the opponents shot before it’s made, creating multiple shots to keep your opponent guessing and making personal space on the court to manoeuvre.
“These are critical elements that must be mastered on the international level and has to be instilled in Ramasra, in order for him to succeed on the big stage.” Callender noted.
He urged Ramasra to continuously enhance his discipline, patience and heighten his senses on the court.
A Caribbean veterans player, Callender, is passionate about seeing Ramasra at the top of international squash rankings just as his student Nicolette Fernandes.
