Cycling Federation on strict budget

By JONATHAN RAMNANANSINGH Saturday, February 4 2012

PRESIDENT OF the Trinidad and Tobago Cycling Federation (TTCF), Rowena Williams revealed that the local organisation must prioritise their spending if they are to meet their annual targets.

Williams explained that the most relevant issues must be addressed, before the TTCF can undergo any additional plans.

“We must stay within our allocated budget to ensure all the things we have planned for do materialise. We have had a lot of things to deal with financially and must ensure that we have the funds available when needed. A lot of money also has to be put aside for the assisting of Njisane (Phillip) on his Olympic journey. We have to prioritise,” stated Williams. Referring to the National Cycling Centre promised by the Government in their budget presentation last year, Williams revealed that verbal plans have already gotten underway between the TTCF, the Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SPORTT) and the stadium architects.

“We have met with officials who are handling it. Presently we are awaiting their word on the final design. The architects will take some time to put together their thoughts on the specific design of the arena so we’re waiting until they have the draft,” added Williams.

She continued, “I know that officials are also still in the process of attaining tenders for the arena. It’s all a work-in-progress and things are coming along in a positive way for the new home for cycling.”

The TTCF president also commended SPORTT for their ongoing works on various grounds across Trinidad and Tobago. She hailed the initiatives of the organisation and was hopeful that foundation cycling arenas such as Skinner Park (San Fernando) and the Arima Velodrome would also get a much-needed facelift.
