THE Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) has announced the official start of preparations for the 2012 Champions League T20 Championships which will be staged in South Africa later this year.
TT have announced a 38-man squad which goes into training on July 5- 9 atthe National Cricket Centre in Balmain Couva. The sessions will be conducted by Technical Director David Williams who only recently took over from his name-sake Kelvin Williams as coach of the TT team.
Williams (Kelvin) will be the assistant coach and will work alongside his senior to create a winning formula.
Trinidad and Tobago have already qualified for the CLT20 by virtue of winning the Caribbean T20 Championships which were contested in January. This year will mark the third time in four years that TT will be participating in the lucrative competition. The first time TT participated the “Red Force” as they are commonly called finished as runners up after being beaten in the final.
But in the second appearance the “Red Force” failed to get to the semi-final round as they were booted out in the quarters. Included in the training squad are cricketers who are currently on regional duty with the West Indies senior and “A” teams currently playing against New Zealand and India “A” respectively.
Among them are brothers Dwayne and Darren Bravo, Denesh Ramdin, Ravi Rampaul, Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Samuel Badree, Lendl Simmons and Adrian Barath. Also called is fast bowler Shannon Gabriel who was picked in the WI squad for their tour of England two months ago but suffered an injury and had to return home. A notable inclusion in the squad is former national captain Daren Ganga who led the TT team in their first two excursions in the CLT20 which were both staged in India.
