Trini jockeys win three at Woodbine

Monday, July 16 2012

TRINIDADIAN jockeys at Woodbine had a fairly good day yesterday, winning three of the nine-race card.

Veteran ace Emile Ramsammy had only his eighth winning ride of the season, taking Takemebaktoartemus to victory in the day’s finale, a seven furlong sprint for three-year-olds and upward with a purse of Can$34,400.

But the star was his Trini compatriot Richard Dos Ramos who landed a double.

Dos Ramos scored with Royal Egbert in the third race, a Can$56,000 six furlong sprint for three-year-olds.

And in the fifth, he landed Uncatchable Fire winner of the Can$52,500 race for three-year-olds and upward over 6 ½ furlongs.

The double victory landed Dos Ramos in double figures for the season with 10 winning rides.

Current leader and seven-time Sovereign Awards winner, Barbadian Patrick Husbands had a blank day, managing only one second place finish in the fourth race astride Spring In The Air.

He currently leads the standings with 67 winning rides, two more than last year’s champin Luis Contreras who had two winners yesterday.

Top 10 jockeys at Woodbine: 1. Patrick Husbands 67; 2. Luis Contreras 65; 3. Eurico Rosa Da Silva 59; 4. Justin Stein 57; 5. Emma-Jayne Wilson 50; 6.

Tyler Pizarro 27; 7. Steven Ronald Bahen 25; 8. Jesse M. Campbell 24; 9. Gerry Olguin, 21; 10. Omar Moreno 19.
