Pinard blows away Ramasra in Caribbean squash

By KEVIN SUNICH Monday, August 20 2012

NATIONAL senior squash champion Josh Pinard showed that his win over Colin Ramasra in the semi-final of that tournament in June was not a fluke.

The TT top seed disposed of his fellow countryman in straight sets in third round action of the Senior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) at the Cascadia Squash Courts, Cascadia, yesterday.

Pinard who won a hard fought five set in the national semi-final, was not going to be pushed to another five set match as he stunned Ramasra, 11/6, 11/6, 11/9.

He will now face the tournament’s top seed and defending champion Chris Binnie of Jamaica today in the quarter-final. Binnie eased to a comfortable three set win 11/1, 11/2, 11/1, over Rhett Cumberbatch. Barbados’ Shawn Simpson who defeated TT’s Ryan Abraham in second round action on Saturday, defeated Jamal Calendarin four sets 11/8, 4/11, 11/8, 11/7.

TT’s 2010 Senior Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Mixed Doubles silver medallist Kerri Sample advanced to the quarter-final on the women’s side.

She defeated Tracy Binnie of Jamaica in straight sets, 11/6, 11/8, 11/3. Sample will face Mary Fung-A-Fat of Guyana, who got the better of 17-time national champion Rhea Khan in three sets.

The Guyanese easily won the first 11/6, however, Khan put up a fight in

the second and third set

but was not able to pull it off as she went down 11/9 in both.

Defending champion Nicollett Fernandes of Guyana easily disposed of Gylla Mckensie 11/2, 11/3, 11/1. Meanwhile second seed Karen Meakins of Barbados defeated TT’s Jessica Scott 11/4, 11/0, 11/0.
