All rounder Bravo to captain WI team for ZimbabweMonday, February 18 2013
THE West Indies have named the ODI squad for the upcoming series against Zimbabwe here in the Caribbean, starting February 22.
And Trinidad and Tobago all rounder Dwayne Bravo has been selected to captain the team as regular skipper Darren Sammy is being rested.
In a release yesterday it was also revealed that the hard-hitting Chris Gayle, who only recently returned to the West Indies after a near two-year absence, has also been granted time off to rest. Gayle’s request for much needed rest was accepted yesterday, clearing the way for other upcoming players to be given an opportunity.
Trinidad and Tobago’s wicketkeeper Denseh Ramdin returns to the team since losing his position to Devon Thomas for the just concluded Australia tour, which saw the regional team whitewashed 5-0 in the One Day International series , before they returned to win the lone T20 match last week.
The team also includes TT Darren Bravo, fast bowler Tino Best, Johnson Charles, Narsing Deanarine, Sunil Narine, Veerasammy Permaul, Kieron Pollard, Kieran Powell, Kemar Roach, Andre Russell and the struggling Ramnaresh Sarwan who has failed to be among the runs for the Australia tour as well as for Guyana in the recent Caribbean T20 Tournament held in Trinidad and Tobago and St Lucia.
The West Indies will play two Test and as many T20 matches and three One Day Internationals from February 22- March 24. They face Zimbabwe in an opening ODI match February 22 at the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada. No vice captain was named.
