TRINIDAD and Tobago defeated Windward Islands by 14 runs in their second round Regional Super50 Championship match at Arnos Vale Stadium yesterday.

Jason Mohammed led the way with a splendid unbeaten 63 while newcomers Nicholas Pooran also finished not out on 33 as the Red Force tallied 216 in the allotted 50 over, on their way to getting revenge for the recent defeat to the Windwards in a Regional Four Day encounter.

But despite the important knocks by Mohammed and Pooran, the victory was only complete until Yannic Cariah claimed five wickets for 44 runs in restricting their opponents to 202 in 49.2 overs.

Batting first opening batsman Lendl Simmons got the Red Force off to a good start with 20 while his partner Adrian Barath made 29. Simmons was caught and bowled by Johnson and Barath fell LBW to Liam Sebastian.

Evin Lewis continued to make his presence on the team felt as he hit a hard fought 31 before being bowled by Shane Shillingford.

Yanick Ottley also made a vital contribution of 28 to the TT tally before later joining with Cariah with the ball to dismiss the Windwards cheaply.

In response never got going despite half centuries by Andre Fletcher (58) and Liam Sebastien (52).

The left handed Devon Smith tried to steady the innings early and made a good try before being caught by Pooran off Rayad Emritt’s bowling for 39. Afterwards Fletcher raced to his half century before becoming Cariah’s first victim when he was caught by Justin Guillen from a deceiving delivery.

Cariah later accounted for the dangerous Sebastien before the Windwards inning folded for 202.
