Powergen gain 1st inns lead over Caldrac

POWERGEN GAINED first innings points over Caldrac Club yesterday, on the opening day of their Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) National League Premier Division Round Seven contest at Syne Village, Penal.

Caldrac were bowled out for 193 with national “limited-overs specialist” Sherwin Ganga taking four wickets for 79 runs, while fellow off-spinners Jason Mohammed (3/32) and Vaaroon Samaroo (3/67) shared the wickets.

Guyanese Royston Crandon top-scored with 65 while Robert Mahabir had an unbeaten 49 and Mark Deyal 45.

In response, Powergen reached 233/6 at stumps, with Ganga hitting 73, Mohammed 59 and TT captain Denesh Ramdin 55. Allen Laurent took 3/36 and Deyal 2/35.

Ramdin’s deputy as national wicket-keeper, Stephen Katwaroo, was the lone century-maker on the day, for Alescon Comets.

Katwaroo notched 145 not out and Zaid Clarke 39 as Comets were bowled out for 232 away to First Citizens Clarke Road at Wilson Road, Penal. Derone Davis, the ex-TT and West Indies Under-19 left-arm spinner and current Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) player, took 4/51 and ex-TT leg-spinner Sanjiv Gooljar 3/73.

Clarke Road closed the day on 146/2 with Ryan Ramdass undefeated on 82, while Adrian Ali hit 29 and Ranga Lachana 20 not out. Ancil Bhaggan claimed 2/42 for Comets.
