‘El Do’ ready for Fatima clash
By KEVIN SUNICH Friday, May 3 2013
MANAGER of defending champions El Dorado East Nigel Maraj feels that his team is more than ready for their clash against Fatima in the quarter-finals of the 2013 PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) Intercol set for the Caroni Savannah ground today.
The defending champions eased to a nine wicket win over former champions Presentation College in their second round match on Wednesday.
“The players are eagerly anticipating Fatima college, they believe that they could get the job done. They are physically and mentally prepared for this encounter,” said the manager.
He said while they are the defending champions the players are not feeling any pressure at the moment.
“While there could be some pressure, the players are not feeling any at the moment. They know what it took to win last year and they are clearly willing to put in the effort to do that again this year,” said the El Do official.
Maraj however, said while they are confident, they will not take their opponents lightly. “ Fatima has a very good coach and they will definitely be well prepared. They have a couple of good players in addition to them being a good feeling team, so we expect a very good match.
Meanwhile league champions Hillview who were on byes in the first two rounds will do battle with Carapichaima at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain, Couvia. Hillview who last won the title in 2011 after going back to back, will be without Jonathan Hosein and star batsman Jeremy Solozano.
Hosein is out with an injury while the U-19 opening batsman is playing for the senior team against Jamaica in the Regional Four-day semi-final at home. Head coach Richard Kelly senior said it will not be an easy task for his guys since Solozano has been their top batsman this season. “You have to be realistic, while we are aiming to win the title, it will be an even greater challenge without these two players. Everybody will have to pull their weight and dig deep. It would be very nice to win the double, however, you have to be practical as well,”said Kelly.
Caarpichaima will no doubt be aiming to avenge their loss in the league, which dented their chances of winning the title.
Over at the Balmain Cricket ground, title contenders Trinity East will take on Barrackpore. Trinity defeated Iere by 52 runs in their second round match to advance to the last eight.
