TT ping pong teams in Caribbean final

By JONATHAN RAMNANANSINGH Thursday, August 29 2013

Trinidad and Tobago will clash with the Dominican Republic and Guyana today in the men and women’s finals of the Caribbean Region Table Tennis Federation (CRTTF) Senior Championships Team Events in St Lucia.

In the women’s semi-final yesterday, the TT team clinched a narrow 3-2 victory over the Dominican Republic. Seasoned player, Rheann Chung opened the campaign with a commanding 11-8, 13-11, 11-1 win over Lineth Vila. Aleena Edwards contested the following match but was ousted 11-8, 6-11, 5-11, 5-11 by Eva Brito (1-1). Dominican Republic then went 2-1 ahead with an easy 3-11, 5-11, 8-11 win over local Linda Partap-Boodan. However, Chung would level the pegging for TT with a strong 11-6, 11-8, 11-7 beating of Brito. Edwards made up for her opening game loss when she overpowered Vila in the final game 11-8, 11-5, 11-8.

The TT women’s squad will now face Guyana today in the final, after the South Americans defeated Barbados 3-0.

And in the men’s semi-final clash, TT’s combination of Curtis Humphreys, Dexter St Louis and David Mahabir drubbed the Bajans 3-0 to advance. Humphreys had a tough time in the opening match but still managed to salvage an important 11-9, 11-9, 7-11, 10-12, 11-8 victory over Trevor Farley. St Louis then had a strong showing as he defeated Kevin Farley 11-9, 11-3, 7-11, 11-3. Mahabir then completed the win for TT when he breezed past Mark Dowell 11-8, 11-4, 11-4.

The local men will now face Dominican Republic in the championship match today. They progressed into the finals after getting past Guade-

loupe 3-0.
