TRINIDAD and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) and PowerGen Club Cricketer of the Year, Nicholas Sookdeosingh, expressed delight with his form over the last competitive year and is determined to increase his consistency as the anticipated 2014 season draws closer.
The ace batsman, who bagged a mammoth nine titles at his club’s annual awards on Wednesday night, admitted that the favours of the past season have developed him into a more mature and knowledgeable athlete.
“I feel very motivated winning this year’s TTCB and PowerGen Cricketer of the Year awards. 2013 has been a great learning experience for me and I hope to carry my positive run of form with me into the next competitive year,” said Sookdeosingh at the club’s base in Syne Village, Penal on Wednesday.
The opening batsman revealed he is still eagerly awaiting a national team call-up but will not be deterred in the meantime.
While he expressed optimism towards representing the red, white and black on the regional and world stage, Sookdeosingh remained confident his time would come to suit up in the “Red Force” outfit.
“Well as much as I would love a national team call-up, it’s up to the national selectors in the end. I just have to continue doing my best and ensure that my consistency remains over par. It (being selected) will happen at the correct time and I anticipate that call-up. That would be a major step for me, both as an athlete and a person,” he added.
Sookdeosingh continued, “For me, this has been my most successful year, having copped the most runs in several competitions. So for 2014, I intend to work very hard at my game, especilally in my batting area. As for my club PowerGen, I will continue representing them to the fullest and we hope to win more and maybe all the trophies next year.”
Speaking to team coach, Baldath Bodoe, he heaped praises on the youngster and all of his club’s teams, for their passion and commitment to the game and PowerGen club. Bodoe also acknowledged senior players Samuel Badree, Dave Mohammed, Jason Mohammed, Kavesh Kanatsingh and Sherwin Ganga among others, for setting a sound foundation and providing a good example to the upcoming players of the Penal-based club.
