Champs Hillview clobber ‘Naps’

Thursday, February 6 2014

CAPTAIN of the Hillview College cricket team, Camillo Carimbocas played an instrumental role with both the bat and ball to set up a convincing 107-run win over Naparima College when the fourth leg of the Secondary Schools Cricket League Premier Division continued at the Wilson Road Recreation Ground, Penal, on Tuesday.

Batting first, Carimbocas led the charge for the Hillview outfit as he slammed a quick-fire 68, steering his team to 199 for the loss of seven after 44 overs. Also contributing nicely with the bat were Afdal Khan (43), Amrish Rampersad (31) and Travis Mungalsingh (24). Kazeem Mohammed was the pick of the Naparima bowlers as he bagged three for 45 while Dominic Nandlal got two for 42.

In their turn at the crease, “Naps” were quickly dismissed for a sub-par 97 in 37.5 overs. Roberto Samai showed the most resistance with his knock of 26 while Daniel Williams chipped in with 14. Hillview’s Jesse Bootan emerged best bowler with figures of 3/24 while Khan snagged 2/8 and Carimbocas 2/19.

Meanwhile, Iere High School’s Keyron Ramlal also played a pivotal part in ensuring that his school secured a two-wicket win over Presentation College, San Fernando. “Pres” batted first and racked up a seemingly strong 184 in 42 overs. S Ramberran was their top batsman with 56 while A Paharry remained unbeaten on 48. Iere’s Jyd Goolie showed strength with the ball by taking 5/31 while Ramlal snatched 2/32.

In reply, the Siparia-based institution were led to a victorious 187/8 after 41 overs due to good form emanating from Ramlal (33 n.o) and Neville Garcia (31).

Other matches saw St Mary’s College dispose of ASJA Boys’ College, San Fernando, by six wickets. ASJA batted first and were steered to 187/5 by knocks from Akiel Mohammed (84) and D’Angelo Senasie (66). Jamel Hunte took 2/36.

In their turn, St Mary’s raced to 193/4. They were led to voctiry by Jamel Hunte (72), Jason Batson (54) and Joshua Da Silva (41 n.o).
