TSTT will contribute $750,000 towards the staging of the 2006 Super League football competition.

The fourth annual tournament, one tier below the Pro League which will now be named the bmobile Super League, kicks off next Thursday with five matches. Crab Connection and WASA Clean & White are the early favourites to walk home with the $100,000 jackpot as two-time champions bmobile Joe Public and Superstar Rangers are participating in the Pro League, Debutants TSTT, House of Dread and Defence Force (who competed in the 2005 Northern Football Association season) will join Police, Couva Players United, PLIPDECO Caroni, Angostura 1976 Phoenix and M&M Harvard in the ten-team tussle.

Runners-up will collect $60,000 while the third-placed squad gets $30,000.

There will be also be a Knockout and Big 4 tournament at the end of the league competition, with $30,000 for the knockout kings and $15,000 for the runners-up. The launch of the 2006 season took place yesterday at the VIP Lounge, Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) president Oliver Camps said All Sport Promotions Limited will extend their deal to manage and market the competition on behalf of the TTFF until 2008. “The TTFF has also instructed All Sport to assist clubs with their administrative capabilities by hosting a seminar on club management,” Camps noted.

“After the success of the Soca Warriors in Germany, the accent is now firmly on youth development,” Camps said. “We also expect the National Super League clubs will fulfil our mandate of a youth competition very soon.”

July 20 Fixtures — Crab Connection versus TSTT at the San Juan Secondary Comprehensive Ground; WASA vs Defence Force at the WASA Ground, St Joseph; Police vs House of Dread at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima; Couva vs Harvard at the Ato Boldon Stadiuim, Couva; Phoenix vs Caroni at Canaan, Bon Accord. With the exception of the Couva contest (which starts off at 6.30 pm), all other matches begin at 4 pm.
