Ramasra pleased with performanceThursday, March 26 2009
Trinidad and Tobago’s sole professional squash player, Colin Ramasra has returned to training after recovering from the flu which hampered his training schedule recently.
Ramasra’s last competed at the Men’s Jena Super Satellite No2 tournament in Kuwait from March 19 to 22. He was seeded seventh at the tournament but was ousted in the first round, going down to home player Aqueel Ashkanani 6-11, 11-8, 5-11, 11-6, 11-4 in a match that lasted 35 gruelling minutes.
“The season has definitely been progressing well,” declared Ramasra. “I feel as though my results are getting better with every match. I had the flu, so my performances then was ok, but since then I have recovered very well and I am quite pleased” said Ramasra.
Despite the slow start to the season, TT’s top squash player is confident that he will recover this season on a stronger note.
“My confidence is getting higher with every match, also, recently I have had some very close loses, soon I will be turning those close loses into wins” noted Ramasra.
Currently Ramasra is ranked 162 in the PSA World Squash Rankings falling ten places from his highest position but explained that he will consolidate his place in the standings.
“I have sufficient points to be in the top 150 next month, it will depend on if other players’ (ranked near me) averages have increased also” Ramasra revealed.
He added that the new training methods are helping his standard of play and is confident of having a consistent run on the PRO Circuit since his natural game is not being interfered with.
“I have been doing a lot of work on accuracy, and strength/power recently, every few months I focus on different aspects of my game. These two areas need constant work in order to progress and can be done during the season without hampering your game” said Ramasra.
The TT squash player stated that he would be returning home to compete at the Bermudez National Seniors, Trinidad and Tobago Open and bmobile Seniors but is unsure what his next major international tournament would be.
“I am not sure what my next major tournament is at this point in time. I may start off-season training soon, so it all depends, but I will discuss with my coach and go from there and we will decide what is best” said Ramasra.
